Being A Good Samaritan

New International Version (NIV)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ ; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.
35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Simplymarrimye's On Being A Good Samaritan - Luke 10:36-37
Luke 10:36-37

Extending ones hand to others
who are in desperate need
is a noble deed
yet nowadays
people tend to misjudge
Some would wear a deceptive mask
We thought they suffer,
opportunists are everywhere

To lend a helping hand is an act of kindness.
Before someone asks, we may offer
Before someone struggles in pain
we share a spark of hope.
Helping is contagious and may spread
from here to there
It's better to pay forward rather than
paying back.

You see beggars on the streets
Do you give them money?
You witness accidents and encounter
 crippled and sick people
How do you make a difference?
How do you show you care?
We have conscience and guilt
GOD
knows what's inside our hearts.
We may not give any tangible thing
but we can offer a powerful
PRAYER.

    1. It feel good to help others in need but being a good samaritan may not always mean giving material things but offering service if possible.

  2. It's great being helped but it's better to help as you feel fulfilled in giving out good karma.

    1. There's no IFs and BUTs in extending ones hand. Opportunist people may take advantage and it's always up to us to make a choice. I still believe in a saying that goes:

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime"

  3. Helping those who are in need is an act of service to God. However, how do we know who is really "in need?" There are those who resort to begging even if they are strong and fit enough to find a job. I don't give money to beggars, I give them food instead. :)

    1. I think you got my thoughts over this post. The purpose of helping is noble but there are some who even go house to house just to ask for any donation, give a piece of seemingly improvised document as evidence of authenticity?

  4. the classic parable of the good samaritan teaches us that there is no personal boundaries and differences in helping other people. we are all made equally by God and so we should love our neighbors as we love ourselves and Him.

  8. Yes, I agree, there are a lot of people begging to be reached out. But only a few responds. If you somehow happen to realize you're missing your mark in the Lord, why not pray for them.

  9. I remember my values teacher told me to never give anything on the streets. If you see someone begging, it's better to not look at them so you won't feel any guilt or pity them at all. It's good to give but not on the streets. Pray for them instead, they need it the most than what they are actually asking.

  13. Sometimes those you thinks are good Samaritan turned out not. If we all just do what our Lord God wants us to do, then the world will be a better place to live.

  14. great reminder when we are too much focused on ourselves. at the end of the day the most most important is we love like Jesus - others first before ourselves, love in the form of giving and caring even to strangers.

  16. I always remember a book titled A parable of Good Samaritan when I was a kid, and being taught this during my Kinder years. This really help and shape me of what become I am now. Kindness indeed comes from the heart and not from the intentions.
